#3 Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

I made a pact at the start of the year to do #12in12 – by that, I mean visiting 12 countries in 12 months. My criteria for achieving this is flexible. Initially I’d hoped to do at least one country per month, ideally a new country but work and life keeps insisting on getting in the way so I’ve relaxed it a little. Instead, as long as my tally at the end of the year hits 12, I’ll be in the green.

My first trip of 2016 was meant to be Luxembourg. With flights booked for late January, everything was planned. Then I got sent out to Manila on a work trip and everything went a tad askew. Thankfully I made it back in time – just. I returned from my first trip to Manila on the Thursday evening and flew to Luxembourg on the Friday evening. Not that I knew it at the time but my more recent experiences of juggling work travel and personal travel make that look like nothing – not that I’m at all complaining, I love every second of it!

Luxembourg was…perhaps not the best choice for January. The weather was cold and wet, the tourist sites mostly closed – from a tourist perspective, it was a bit of a fail and yet, I still had a great time. I ended up sat next to a group of four guys on the flight out there and when we found out we were all on the same flight back, we ended up teaming up for the weekend. Cue : a weekend of hilarity. At one point, I ended up in a bar trying to pay for drinks with Philippine Pesos and getting rather frustrated when they continually refused to accept my money. Let’s leave what round of drinks we were on for a later post…
